US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez has begun preparing for the upcoming 2022 WTA season, with the Australian Open in her sights as she hopes to make another spectacular run.
The 19-year old ended her 2021 season with a fourth round loss at Indian Wells, and will be looking to have improved results next year. Having been out of the public eye during most of her break, the Canadian took to Twitter to post an update on her progress.
"Having a sister is like having a best friend you can’t get rid of,” she writes over an image of her towing younger sister Bianca during an exercise.
“Training with Bianca and getting to share the love of tennis with her has been amazing. Enjoying every moment we get to spend together before the season.”
Currently ranked at World No.24, Fernandez will likely be seeded in Melbourne. Her sister, Bianca Fernandez, is 17 years old and currently ranked 927th in the WTA rankings. Her last match came at an ITF $25,000 event in Ecuador at the end of October.
