Poland’s
Iga Swiatek lifted her maiden
Wimbledon title with one of the craziest scorelines in the competition’s history. She defeated America’s
Amanda Anisimova in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-0.
Swiatek became the first player in more than 100 years to lift a women’s singles title at Wimbledon without losing a single game. The victory comes as a surprise for the former world number one, who has not won a single competition since lifting the French Open in 2024. However, there was one person who predicted this outcome before the start of the competition.
A user on the social media platform X, with the username of @VenusGauff, predicted that whoever faces Kudermetova in the first round will eventually lift the title. Interestingly, there were two Kudermetovas who featured in the competition. It was Polina who lost to Swiatek in the first round in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-1. It was not the first time the same user predicted something like that. In 2024, the user predicted the same thing. It was Barbora Krejcikova who defeated Veronika Kudermetova with a score of 7-6, 6-7, 7-5. Swiatek, after the match, was ecstatic with the result and stated that she is planning to do something ‘more crazy’ than having her favourite dish.
"I'm going to go with something more crazy than pasta and strawberries, but I don't know," said Swiatek. "I heard I have two hours of media. First, I'm going to focus on that. Then we'll see. I don't know what the team and my family are up to. They've already been celebrating for two hours. They're at a different stage, I would say. It's something that is just surreal. I feel like tennis keeps surprising me, and I keep surprising myself. I'm really happy with the whole process, how it looked like from the first day we stepped on a grass court. I feel like we did everything for it to go in that direction without expecting it, just working really hard. It means a lot, and it gives me a lot of experience. I don't even know. I'm just happy. I think the fact that it's on grass, for sure it makes it more special, I would say, and more unexpected."
