However, Eala responded impressively, raising her level in the second set and forcing a deciding set with a composed performance under pressure.
Once the momentum shifted, Eala took complete control of the match. The 2025 Miami Open champion dominated the final set, winning five consecutive games during one stretch and capitalizing on Zheng’s increasing number of errors to close out the biggest victory of her DC Open campaign. Eala will now face defending champion Leylah Fernandez in a highly anticipated second-round clash.

Anna Kalinskaya cruises past Kasatkina
