Madison Keys has positioned herself among the top-5 active players with the most main-draw wins in Grand Slam tournaments after an impressive Australian Open campaign. The World No. 14 secured her 11th quarterfinal appearance at a major by defeating Elena Rybakina (6-3, 1-6, 6-3).

Keys has been known throughout her career for her consistency in advancing rounds and racking up wins. Since breaking into the top 20 in 2015, she has spent most of her career in that elite group, peaking at World No. 7 in 2016.

Her best result at a Grand Slam came when she reached the US Open final in 2017, where she lost to her friend Sloane Stephens in the most recent all-American final at a major. Such a final could happen again this year, with three of the eight remaining players being American.

Keys’ victory brings her Grand Slam record to an impressive 113-45. She is now the 4th active player with the most major wins, joining former World No. 1s and major champions on the list.

The record is led by Venus Williams, who remains a professional player despite limited appearances. Venus has an extraordinary 271 Grand Slam wins and seven major titles. Victoria Azarenka, a two-time Australian Open champion (2012, 2013), is second with 163 wins, followed by former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki with 129 victories, including the Australian Open 2018 title and two additional final appearances. Keys, with her 113 wins and one major final appearance, surpasses two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep.

In the quarterfinals, Keys will face Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, who eliminated one of the favourites, Jasmine Paolini, and comes off a remarkable win against Veronika Kudermetova. The head-to-head record favours Keys 3-2, though their sole Australian Open meeting in 2019 was won by Svitolina.
