American tennis star Madison Keys is one step closer to representing her country at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. The former World No.7 has put on a superb performance at the ongoing Madrid Open, which has all but confirmed her spot on the Team USA roster this summer.
Keys will face World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the Madrid semifinals on Friday. The American overcame the likes of compatriot Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur and Liudmila Samsonova en route to the final four. Showing the expertise that saw her reach the Roland Garros semifinals a few years ago, Keys looks rejuvenated but will face a tough test when she battles Swiatek.
The World No.20 is in the fourth spot for Olympic qualification among American athletes in the singles department. Keys trails Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins. Rising star Emma Navarro trails Keys by 360 points on the Olympics race table, with the quadrennial event set to kick off on July 27, 2024.
However, there are only two tournaments left prior to selection for the Olympics. With Rome and Roland Garros being the final events, Keys has a good chance of holding her position as the fourth and final singles entrant on the US Olympics women's tennis team.
