Maria Sakkari was disappointed yet again by losing to Petra Martic in the Linz semi-final missing out on a chance to contest the trophy against Potapova.
Sakkari was by far the best-ranked player remaining in the draw and considering some solid tennis played this year it was expected that she would at least book the final if not win it all. She's had her troubles with later stages of events before and it proved to be her undoing once more. She started off well taking the opening set 6-3 by winning the crucial rallies.
There were chances on both sides but Sakkari was better in the crucial rallies. She lost the second set pretty easily struggling to win on her serve which was very surprising. It's like her confidence simply vanished after the first set. The final set was played well by both players as neither allowed any break points until the finish. Sakkari allowed one at 4-4 lost it, and lost the match consequently.
Martic moves on to the final to face Anastasia Potapova who has been smashing players all week long. She took on tricky Vondrousova and passed the test pretty well. 6-1 was the score of the first set for Potapova who lost the second in a close tiebreak. The final one was another solid one that she won 6-3.
