Maria Sakkari gets off to a winning start in Nottingham

In her first match since the Roland Garros exit, Maria Sakkari proved comfortable on the grass winning 6-2 6-3 against Camila Osorio.

Both of these players like the clay better but both of them played a fairly solid match on grass. Sakkari is the far better and more consistent player with a tricky serve that can do quite a lot of damage on this surface. Sakkari opened well with a 3-0 lead and an early break. Osorio broke back to make it 3-2 but Sakkari added another one for the 5-2 lead.

She then broke her opponent for the 3rd time in the opening set finishing it off with 6-2. She was fairly comfortable winning the majority of her 1st serve points with some trouble on her 2nd serve. On return she was superb winning 9 of 11 2nd service points on Osorio's serve.

The 2nd set was quite similar although Osorio served a bit better this time around and Sakkari had to wait for a chance. She got it at 3-2 breaking Osorio finally for the 4-2. A bit of a struggle but she was able to make it 5-2 setting herself up for the finishing blow at 5-3.

She finished it off with 6-3 for the nice win moving on to round 2 of the event. A good start for Sakkari after the French Open disappointment.
