Maria Sakkari named best Greek female athlete

As the awards season continues to happen around the globe, Maria Sakkari attended one in her native Greece. The country was honoring the best Greek athletes and for 2021 it was Maria Sakkari who was chosen. The Greek had a tremendous tennis season, her best by far in her career. She played fabulous tennis all year round ending up in the top 10.

She also contested the WTA Finals becoming the first Greek player to ever do so. All of those efforts earned a very dear accolade. She was named the best Greek female athlete of the past year. She announced the news with a photo on Instagram holding the award with the caption:

"It’s an incredible honor to be recognized as the best female Greek athlete this year. I am very thankful for all your support and excited to continue improving myself inside and outside of the court."

Sakkari has always been proud of her Greek heritage noting the importance of representing her country in the best possible light around the Globe. This will certainly help with that. Congratulations !!
