Greece’s tennis star Maria Sakkari is set to go out of the top 10 of the WTA ranking after yet another disappointing result.
The 28-year-old suffered a disappointing result in the ongoing Qatar Open where she was knocked out after losing in the round of 32 clash to the Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova with a score of 3-6, 7-6, 7-5.
With that result, it is almost certain that Sakkari will go out of the top 10 in the WTA ranking something which will be demoralising for the Athens-born.
Sakkari had a disastrous start to the 2024 season where she was knocked out of the Australian Open after losing in the second round to Elina Avanesyan in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
It was the ninth consecutive Grand Slam where the current world number nine failed to qualify for the quarterfinal or beyond. Sakkari last played in the quarterfinal or beyond in a mega-event back in the 2021 US Open.
Later, she was also knocked out of the Abu Dhabi Open after losing in the round of 16 to Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
