Petra Martic and Yulia Putintseva won their 3rd round matches at the US Open to advance to the next round of the grand slam.

Petra Martic and Yulia Putintseva advanced to the 4th round of the US Open after victories against Gacheva and Sasnovich. Petra Martic booked a place in the 4th after defeating Varvara Gacheva in just over an hour and a half play. It was a victory in straight sets but Martic had to fight for it. The start of the match was interesting because we saw 3 breaks in the first 3 games. Two of them were won by Martic who continued playing well after that holding her lead. In the final game of the 1st set, she won yet another break to seal the deal 6-3.
The 2nd set started similarly to the 1st as we saw two breaks in the two first games. A few games later Martic once again took control of the match by breaking her opponent and taking a 4-1 lead. Gacheva tried to rally but even when she managed to break Martic she simply could not hold her own serve so the Croatian ended the match with a 6-3 2nd set victory.
All in all, it was a valiant effort from Gacheva but her inability to hold her own serve cost her the match.
Putintseva had to battle back against Sasnovich as she lost the first set. The beginning was tough for Putintseva who found herself down 0-3 at the start. She never found her footing in the set again as she lost the set 6-3. She did respond in a dominant manner winning the next set with 6-2. Sasnovich had no response to Putintseva's aggression, especially from the baseline.
She attacked Sasnovich at every opportunity and that trend continued into the next set where she was even more dominant. Somewhere during that set Sasnovich simply gave up and surrendered the set 6-1 losing the match.
