Martina Navratilova doubles down on transgender stance with viral repost about Williams sisters defeat to World No.203

The debates revolving around transgender athletes rolls on, specifically in tennis where 18-time Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova has doubled-down on her views after reposted a tweet focusing on the Williams' sisters prior loss to World No.203 Karsten Braasch.

This debacle has been common in a number of sports in recent time, but tennis is also entering the debate. Despite there having been only one known transgender tennis player, Rennee Richards between 1977-1981, the WTA are clamping down on new transgender rules, straying away from their prior eligibility policy.

All players must undergo a one-time genetic sex test through either a cheek swab, saliva sample or blood sample. Those who test negative for the SRY gene can continue competing on the WTA Tour like normal, but a positive test will see more medical assessments before a final decision is come to.

It has been a prominent story in the tennis world with pundits, former professionals and fans all having their say and spreading their opinions on the matter. Navratilova has been one of the most recognisable voices, and continues to share her views backing this new WTA policy.

While the talk has seem to died down in recent times following the official announcement, Navratilova has come out to again showcase her opinion on this matter.

The 69-year-old utilised social media once more, as she did when responding to a number of fans on the matter, picking out on particular post which gives more strength to her intended argument. Defending her view that biological men should not compete in women sports, a famous example coming all the way back in 1998 involving a young Serena and Venus Williams backs her case.

They both played a set against Braasch, who at the time was ranked 203rd in the world. They both confidently stated that they could beat any man ranked outside the top 200. Their theory was proved wrong when the German thrashed Serena 6-1 and Venus 6-2 without seemingly trying too hard.

Navratilova reposted a recent tweet explaining the incident. "In 1998, Serena and Venus Williams said they could beat any man ranked outside the top 200 in the men's division. So, little known and 203rd ranked men's player Karsten Braasch took them up on the challenge. Braasch after a night of drinking and smoking with zero practice, destroyed Serena 6-1 and Venus 6-2 in straight sets. The Williams sisters are the greatest female athletes of all time. And they barely made Braasch break a sweat.

"It wasn't because Braasch was very good. He wasn't. But, as a male, he possesses biological advantages even the best female athletes can't compete against. That's the very reason we established women's sports to begin with. To even the playing field. That shouldn't be controversial. And you shouldn't need a biology degree to understand it."

The debate will continue to rumble on long into the future. Navratilova continues to back this move by the WTA confidently as women's sports around the world are now starting to be reserved only for biological women.
