What a celebration!🇨🇦 @leylahfernandez finishes with yet another winner to beat Vondrousova 👏 #BJKCupFinals | | @TennisCanada
Leylah Fernandez continues to anchor from the front at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Seville as she hauled Canada level seeing off Marketa Vondrousova to make it 1-1.
Fernandez was in superb form during the opening set going 6-2 up, but as ever with the unpredictable nature of women's tennis, the Montreal-born ace slipped to a second set 6-2 deficit before recovering her poise to take the third 6-3 to take the win with a superb celebration that followed showing what it meant to her.
The showdown will now be determined, with the winners set to face off against Italy. Now the doubles decider will see Gabriela Dabrowski and Eugenie Bouchard face off against stern opposition.
That being Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, with the former anchoring them initially to a 1-0 lead with victory over Marina Stakusic which put them within striking distance of the final.
But now Fernandez did her job to keep them in it with a first win over a top 10 player since the 2021 US Open and she is showing similar form after recent title wins and confidence boost displays.
