Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka needs seven match points to finish but easily beats Ella Seidel 6-0, 6-1 to reach the 2nd round at the #AusOpen.
Aryna Sabalenka had to start her 2024 Australian Open campaign past midnight on Sunday’s opening day in Melbourne, but took her likely frustrations out on German qualifier Ella Seidel.
Sabalenka who last played reaching the final of the Brisbane International and was thrashed by Elena Rybakina came into the tournament with some doubts despite that run with many picking the Kazakh for the title.

But she has sent out a statement not to doubt her winning back to back yet winning 6-0, 6-1. Over in just under an hour, Sabalenka’s only issue came with serving it out having to go through seven match points before she finally sealed the win.
But the Belarusian made light work of her opponent and showed why she is still to be feared in Melbourne. It is a fairly good section for Sabalenka with the World Number Two facing 16-year-old Brenda Fruhvirtova next up and the earliest seed she would encounter is Lesia Tsurenko in the third round.
