Emma Raducanu is back after nine months away from the sport and is back in the Grand Slam winning circle for the first time since last year's Australian Open with a third consecutive second round spot for the former US Open champion.
Raducanu saw off Shelby Rogers in an easy 6-3, 6-2 win to open her campaign in Melbourne and after good signs to her game in Auckland will face a good section too in order to potentially gain some confidence boosting wins.
She next takes on Yafan Wang who took down Sorana Cirstea in a shock win and could yet face her compatriot and now British Number One in Katie Boulter in the third round who will now face Qinwen Zheng who did not look at her best despite taking down Ashlyn Krueger earlier in the morning.
It was a fast start from Raducanu as she surged into a 3-1 lead playing some superb tennis and this proved to be the vital break in the opening set as she surged to the opener from there in particular looking superb on her serve not allowing Rogers any break chances at all during the opening set while taking the only one she had. It was a 6-3 opener and it went even better in the second.
An early break after a back and forth game between the pair, she went 1-0 up and then broke again which saw the door shut on Rogers chances of a comeback as Raducanu sealed a dominant break at 4-1 and from there served for 5-1. Unlike in her opener in Auckland, she had no trouble serving it out either taking it on her first match point. Raducanu is back in business, albeit against an opponent who did not play since Wimbledon and hasn't had a win since April so Yafan Wang will be the real test to open up but so far so good in Melbourne.
