Mertens opens 2020 with victory at the Shenzhen Open

Elise Mertens along with a few other players successfully started her 2020 season at the Shenzhen Open with a victory.

2020 Shenzhen Open draw features names like Belinda Bencic, Garbine Muguruza or Elise Mertens. And the last-mentioned opened the play on Day 1 of the tournament.

In the first round, the third-seeded Mertens faced Lesia Tsurenko from Ukraine. Elise won the match without any major problems 6-3, 6-3.

In the second round, she will be joined by at least 3 home players that were successful during the first day. Xiyu Wang, Yafan Wang and Shuai Zhang were all successful. China has still 6 more players which can make the home crowd happy in their first-round appearances.
