Great Britain defeated Belgium to earn their first victory in Group C in Sydney at the 2020 ATP Cup.

Belgium opened its ATP Cup campaign with an easy 3-0 victory over Moldova on Friday. However, Great Britain lost to Bulgaria and therefore both teams had a lot to play for.
Steve Darcis opened the day in Sydney in style again. He has defeated Cameron Norrie in just 73 minutes with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. At this point, Belgium won all 4 matches they played and it seemed like they will be a sure quarterfinalist with David Goffin yet to play.
But then things got more interesting when David Goffin and Daniel Evans began their matchup. World number 11 was a clear favorite for giving Belgium 2-0 lead, but Evans did not seem to have the same idea.
Evans got an early 5-2 lead in the 1st set, which he later did not lose despite losing his service game. In the 2nd set, Evans had a better start again. In the first 4 games, he has broken both Goffin's service games and got a 4-0 lead. Goffin got one break back again, but that was not enough when Evans converted his 5th match point in the 10th game.
As the score was level, doubles needed to decide the tie between Belgium and Great Britain. After Murray & Salisbury failed to deliver needed win against Bulgaria, now they had to make up for it with victory over Gille & Vliegen. And they did when they have won the match 6-3, 7-6 in 94 minutes.
Now, Bulgaria leads Group C with 2 points and score 4-2. Belgium is second with the same score but just 1 point. Great Britain is third with score 3-3 and 1 point, followed by their next opponent Moldova who are without points. All 3 leading teams can still advance as this will be decided by their matchups on Tuesday.
