After the first unsuccessful appearance in Brisbane against Australia, Germany needed the win against Greece to keep their hopes for the quarterfinals at the ATP Cup alive.
In the first match of the tie, Jan-Lennard Struff faced Michail Pervolarakis. Although the German was first to lose service game in the first set, he broke his opponent back and earned one more break to win the first set 6-4. In the second set, Struff did not make any more mistakes and won it comfortably 6-1 after just 26 minutes.
A highly-anticipated matchup between two youngsters who are part of the TOP 10 could have decided the tie between Germany and Greece. But Tsitsipas did not let Zverev secure the win for his country. He has won the first set 6-1 and added a 6-4 victory in the second to level the score.
And once again at the ATP Cup, doubles decided the tie. World number 9 and 11 in doubles, Kevin Krawietz & Adrian Mies faced not very experienced players in doubles Tsitsipas & Pervolarakis. But the first set went the other way as the Germans imagined. They lost the set 3-6 and had a lot of work to do in the rest of the match.
Eventually, the duo from Germany won the second set and survived the super tie-break drama. They were already 5-0 down but managed to come back and earn a 17-15 victory. Therefore, they kept their country in-play for the place in the quarterfinal as they need to defeat Canada on Tuesday by the highest possible margin.
