Mertens, Osaka and Pavlyuchenkova all through in straight sets

In the first quarterfinal match of the sixth day, Elise Mertens and Camila Giorgi fought for the spot in semis. The Italian wanted to build on the good form from the previous match, eliminating Sloane Stephens, but Mertens dominated from the start and won the match 6-4 and 6-3.

In the second match Naomi Osaka, the home crowd favourite, and Yulia Putintseva met. Like Mertens, Osaka did not allow her opponent to win a set and won the match after more than an hour and a half 6-4 and 6-4.

In the last quarterfinal match, Hiroshima's finalist Misaki Doi and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who defeated second-seeded Kiki Bertens met. Pavlyuchenkova also handled her opponent in two sets, with the most dominant result 6-2 and 6-2.
