After Dominic Thiem managed to score the first point for the Team Europe in the exciting first match, Jack Sock and Fabio Fognini fought for another point on the court. And it was Sock who, after winning 6-1 and 7-6, scored the only point for the Team World on the first day. After the match Team World Captain John McEnroe said:
“We should have won the first match, so we needed to bounce back,” McEnroe said. “Jack played awesome, he took it to Fabio. He’s a great ball striker. We feel great right now.”
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Taylor Fritz met in the next match. The first and second set ended in less than an hour. Tsitsipas dominated in the first set, winning 6-2, but in the second set it was Fritz who was able to win 6-1. The result of the match was decided by a super tie-break, which the Greek managed to win 10-7 and got the second point for the Team Europe.
Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev in the doubles scored the third point for the Blue Team that consist of the European players. They faced Canadian-American couple Denis Shapovalov and Jack Sock. In the first set Federer and Zverev managed to win relatively comfortably 6-3. In the second set, the Team World had many chances when Shapovalov and Sock were able to convert only 1 out of 13 break balls. Nor did they use any of the six set balls and allowed the Team Europe to win the second set 7-5.
