Fourth-seeded Borna Corics and 8th seeded Casper Ruud were the first players to stand on the court. They were also the only players who played more than 2 sets during the fifth day of play. Ruud won 6-3 in the first set, but Coric managed to turn the match after winning the second set 7-5 and third 6-3.
The sixth seeded Mikhail Kukushkin and Joao Sousa from Portugal met in the second match. The turning point of this match was the tie-break of the first set, where Sousa managed to convert his fifth set ball and won it 10-8. In the second set, the Portuguese already dominated, taking the opponent's service twice and winning it 6-2.
The biggest surprise of the fifth day was seen in the third match, in which the US Open semifinalist Matteo Berrettini and qualifier Egor Gerasimov met. We didn't see a break in the match when Gerasimov won both sets in a tie-break. Gerasimov has already added 11th win in the last 12 matches to his account.
The quarterfinal round culminated in a match between two home-crowd favourites, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. Medvedev managed to follow on the great form from the US Open against his fellow countryman by winning 6-4 and 7-5 and advanced to the semifinal, where he meets Egor Gerasimov.
