Current world number two
Aryna Sabalenka booked her name in
the history books during the Australian Open 2024 triumph, but she is unlikely to ever beat the record set by
Chris Evert in terms of reaching consecutive Grand Slam Quarter-Finals.
The Belarus tennis star went on to lift the title after
beating Qinwen Zheng of China in the final in straight sets with a score of
6-3, 6-2.
In a bid to reach the final of the mega-event, Sabalenka
became only the second player in the history of women’s tennis in the singles
category to have won the first eight quarterfinal matches in a Grand Slam. But it isn't a patch on the 48 Grand Slam Quarter-Finals in a row that Chris Evert has won which is a record unlikely to ever be beaten.
A lot is made of the records of the Big Three in particular, but Evert who is seen as one of the greatest tennis players of all time stands alone in terms of that feat.
Sabalenka defeated Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinal of
the mega-event in Melbourne in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-3. She
later went on to take some sort of revenge of the defeat in the final of the US
Open in 2023 after getting the better of the America’s young sensation Coco
Gauff in the semifinal of the event with a score of 7-6, 6-4.
It was Sabalenka’s second consecutive Australian Open title.
She won the mega-event last year as well where she defeated Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan
with a score of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4.
