Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic is set to take a little break after the Australian Open debacle. The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic has recently suffered a setback while playing at the Australian Open where he was knocked out after losing in the semifinal to Italy’s Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
After that defeat, there has been no report as to when the Belgrade-born will return to the court. As per his official website, it was reported that Djokovic will next appear at the Indian Wells competition. “Next stop for Djokovic will be the BNP Paribas Open [Indian Wells] from March 6-17,” said the website.
If that happens, it might have an impact on Djokovic’s top spot in the ATP ranking as other players will be taking part in different competitions and will be earning some important points.
After the Australian Open, the current world number one stated that needs some time to evaluate when to return to the court.
“I want my thoughts to settle – when I calm down, I will move on and see what tournaments I will play,” he said. “I made a commitment to myself that I will give it my all this year, with the priority being Slams and the Olympics. We’ll see whether something will change, in this stage of my life and my career some surprising decisions are maybe more expected compared to 20 years ago."

2195 - Novak Djokovic lost his first match at the Australian Open since the R4 in 2018 when he lost to Hyeon Chung, 2195 days ago - he won 33 consecutive matches in this span equalling the longest winning streak at the AO in the Open Era. Conclusion. #AusOpen | @AustralianOpen
