Russian tennis sensation Mirra Andreeva has been touted as a future top 10 star on the WTA tour, and the teenager is leaving little doubt as she continues to set records on tour.

The 17-year old made short work of Armenian Elina Avanesyan in their opening round clash at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Andreeva recorded an easy 6-2 6-1 victory, and will advance to the next round where she faces much tougher opposition in former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova.

Andreeva sets new record at WTA 1000 events

The World No.14 has slowly been climbing up the WTA rankings table, behind impressive wins at both WTA and Grand Slam events. Following her win over Avanesyan, Andreeva stands at 18 wins in WTA 1000 events, the most by a player under 18 years of age since the format's introduction in 2009.

By virtue of her victory, Andreeva leapfrogged World No.3 Coco Gauff, as the American had 17 wins at the WTA 1000 level before turning 18. Compatriot Amanda Anisimova, who just won the biggest title of her career at the Qatar Open, comes in third on the list with 9 wins at the WTA 1000 level while still a teenager.

Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova holds the fourth spot with 7 wins at the WTA 1000 level, and Czech star Linda Fruhvirtova rounds out the top five with 6 WTA 1000 wins before turning 18 years old.
