Mirra Andreeva lost early to Katie Volynets at Indian Wells and prior to that Peyton Stearns in Dubai and it seems like the 16-year-old prodigy has been suffering with an injury which means she has had to withdraw from the Miami Open which begins March 20.
Taking to her Instagram story, Andreeva wrote that she has been suffering with arm tendonitis. She said that she has decided to air on the side of caution and not risk it ahead of the clay court season.
It was the clay last year where she made her breakout in Madrid and went on to have a terrific debut season ending it as the WTA Newcomer of the Year. Recently though she broke down in tears after her loss to Katie Volynets in Indian Wells and has shown some petulance at times amid the brilliance.
"I wanted to share that I have made this difficult decision for me to pull out of Miami. I've always wanted to play this amazing tournament, so it was very hard for me to decide to skip it this year. I have been struggling with some arm tendonitis and decided to be caution(cautious) about it, take some time to recover, get stronger and be ready for the clay court season," she wrote on Instagram.
