Russian tennis star
Mirra Andreeva has had a hot start to the 2025 WTA season, and the youngster may be achieving Grand Slam success sooner rather than later, says Andreeva's coach
Conchita Martinez.
The 17-year old announced her arrival on tour by winning the title in Dubai earlier this year. Andreeva would go on to win the biggest title of her career the following week at Indian Wells, defeating Grand Slam champions Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka en route to the title.
Andreeva's level of play can lead to Grand Slam success
In an episode of the Daily Dani podcast by former WTA pro
Daniela Hantuchova, Martinez spoke on her ward's current form and chances of doing well at Grand Slam events this year.
"We have an incredible connection, we get on so well and we have fun,” began Martinez. “Mirra is already ready to win a Grand Slam. It’s true that winning a major is very difficult and you never know when it will happen until you do it, but despite her youth Andreeva already has the level to do it. We’ll see if she does, and when, but her level is there.
"Mirra is feisty. When things are going her way she has no problem if you tell her things. But when things go wrong, we see the other side of her and she finds it hard to take things on board.
"I’m learning to recognize which are the best moments for her to understand what I’m trying to communicate and she needs to improve her listening when things aren’t going as well as she would like. That said, for a 17-year-old she is a very mature player and I wish I had been nicer to my coaches sometimes."
