Lois Boisson has made history as the first Frenchwoman into the semi-finals of the French Open since 2011. The wildcard has downed Mirra Andreeva 7-6, 6-3.
She is also the first wildcard to reach the semi-finals in the women’s singles draw and now faces Coco Gauff for a spot in the final.
Last year Boisson ascended to new heights and qualified for the French Open but a horror injury saw her out of the tournament and into surgery.
But she has made up for it this year dumping out the top 10 star after also disposing of Jessica Pegula in the previous round.
From 5-3 down and a set point down in the opener, she turned it around and had the chance to claim it herself before it went to a tiebreak which she edged out.
Andreeva gained a foothold in the second going 3-0 up and it looked for all the will in the world like the pressure would be cranked up again on Boisson.
But she rose to it. Andreeva did not win another game as Boisson ramped up the pressure in what was a horror show for the Russian who will know she let a golden chance slip.
Many would’ve been wondering how she handled the pressure facing Andreeva after dumping out Jessica Pegula but in truth, the same can be said next and she rose to it this time. Gauff will relish a good opportunity but it could well be an opponent like Pegula and Andreeva that is underestimated and it could be at her peril.
