inspiration from Disney.
7-time
Grand Slam champion, recently returned to the courts at the Libema Open after
being out since January of this year. The American's debut ended in defeat
against 17-year-old newcomer Celine Naef.
At the
Birmingham Classic, the former world No.1 faced a tough draw in the first round
against Italian player
Camila Giorgi. However, Williams managed to pull through
the match, showing strength in the tie-breaks, and advanced to the next round
with a score of 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(8).
In the
second round, she faced former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, who
defeated the American legend in three sets, with a final score of 6-3, 5-7,
6-3. Ostapenko had a great week and went on to win the Birmingham title by
defeating Barbora Krejcikova in the final on Sunday.
Venus
Williams took to social media to share a selfie of herself in front of a
mirror, drawing inspiration from the classic tale of Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs. In her caption, she referenced the questions asked to the mirror:
"Mirror
mirror on the wall, who has the biggest serve of them all?" she wrote.
At 43 years
old,
Venus Williams is currently ranked 554th in the WTA rankings. However, she
will be competing in
Wimbledon thanks to a wild card given by the tournament
organizers. Williams has won the Wimbledon title five times (2000, 2001, 2005,
2007, 2008) and has reached four more finals, with her most recent appearance
in 2017, where she lost to Garbine Muguruza.
