Denis
Shapovalov congratulated his girlfriend Mirjam Bjorklund after winning the
Ilkley title.
The Swedish
tennis player had a fantastic week in the UK, becoming the champion of the ITF
100k event. Bjorklund achieved impressive victories against the third seed
Dalma Galfi in the semifinals and the top seed Emma Navarro, who is currently
ranked 60th in the world.
After
lifting the trophy, she took to her social media to share her excitement about
winning the most significant title in her career so far:
"100K
Title!! My biggest title yet and i’m super happy to do it on the grass in
Ilkley. Thank you to everyone for your amazing support throughout the week, its
been so fun!! And my team, you are the best," Bjorklund wrote.
Denis
Shapovalov greeted Bjorklund, expressing his pride for the tennis player who
has been his girlfriend since 2019.
"SO
PROUD OF YOU CHAMP!! you work so hard and you deserve this and more to
come," ‘Shapo’ wrote.
The
24-year-old Canadian also shared a photo of Bjorklund with the trophy on his
Instagram stories.
"Ilkley
champion!!! Biggest title of your career. I couldn't be prouder and happier for
you!! More to come," he wrote on his Instagram Story.
Shapovalov
is not having a good season so far. Despite currently being ranked as world No.
29, in the race to the ATP Finals (considering only points earned in 2023), the
former world No. 10 is currently in 79th place. His last appearance was in
Halle, where he lost in the second round to Alexander Zverev. With just one victory
in three matches on grass, Shapovalov will enter Wimbledon as the 25th seed.
