No hangover from Montreal for Canadian Open champion,
Jessica Pegula who returned home to the US and was immediately down to business taking down Martina Trevisan at the
Cincinnati Open.
Pegula won through 6-7(2), 6-2, 6-3 to secure her 30th 1000 hard court win. It wasn't smooth sailing for the World Number Three, but she battled back after losing the opening set to claim it with ease.
Trevisan nearly sent the match to crisis point for Pegula being up a break twice in the opening set. But she gave it back back times. Albeit, this was academic as it went to a tiebreak which the Italian breezed through.
Pegula didn't look in form and didn't serve or return well. But drastic improvement followed. Trevisan's serve started to break down and Pegula took advantage in particular from the baseline to get herself back into it.
Taking an early break in the second set, she cruised from there. The final set was very much similar as Pegula turned around a tricky matchup and one she struggled with at times on Trevisan's preferred surface of clay in Madrid earlier on this year.
Those struggles continued as such but was more rustiness after winning on Sunday for Pegula. Iga Swiatek - Danielle Collins and Jelena Ostapenko - Elena Rybakina also follow this evening with three of those players also going deep in Montreal so shock watch could also be on but not for the home hope.
