Iga Swiatek commented on her victory over Danielle Collins in the third round of Wimbledon and her expectations for the second week of the tournament. The Pole is one of only four top-10 players remaining in contention and will face Denmark's Clara Tauson (22nd seed) for a spot in the quarterfinals.
The five-time Grand Slam champion aims to move past an erratic clay-court swing that ended with her semifinal defeat at Roland Garros—where She was the three-time defending champion. She reached the final of the Bad Homburg Open in her only grass-court tournament prior to Wimbledon but ultimately fell to Jessica Pegula.
The Pole has at least surpassed her 2024 performance—where she was defeated in the third round—and will look to match her best showing—back in 2023—when she reached the quarterfinals. Swiatek, for now, is pleased with the level She has displayed in the first three rounds. "I am very pleased with my level of play, I believe I am reaching the consistency level that I have been seeking for a while, and I feel more comfortable on grass than in previous years."
"Having more time available to train and compete on this surface is crucial, but also being able to focus solely on point-by-point play,” the former world No. 1 added. “I try to maintain no expectations and adapt to all situations that arise during the matches."
The Pole will face 22-year-old Clara Tauson, with whom she has only one previous encounter, over three years ago in the Indian Wells third round, where the Pole secured a three-set victory. "It will be a great challenge for me,” commented Swiatek. “She has an excellent touch, is very talented, and can unleash winning shots from any position. I will need to bring my A-game if I want to win."
