Garbine Muguruza had a very poor season causing her ranking to drop off a cliff and she got a wild card entry for the Adelaide event in order to avoid qualifiers.
The Spaniard started the season with some good showings but her tennis fell off a cliff as the tennis season progressed. Her ranking followed suit and fairly quickly, Mugurza found herself out of range for direct entries into the strongest events in the world. To avoid having to play qualifiers Muguruza hoped for some wild card entries into main draws and she got one for Adelaide.
She joined native players Priscilla Hon and Jaimee Fourlis who will also compete at the WTA 500 event. It's a very strong event with Ons Jabeur as the top seed along with Sabalenka, Kasatkina, Kudermetova and Danielle Collins who are seeds.
