The action continues at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships with Garbine Muguruza and Petra Martic through to the third round successfully.
Muguruza battled past Veronika Kudermetova 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to continue her good form as of late which has seen her record this year extended to 13-2 ; which included her run to the Australian Open final; as the Spaniard has proved she is very much back on form.
Despite an excellent performance against Dayana Yastremska for the latter; she couldn't produce the quality to match the in-form former Wimbledon champion barring the first set where she broke the serve of Muguruza.
A poor middle part to the set though saw Muguruza punish and produce a brilliant end to the set where it was very much close with a decisive break saw her claim it.
Kudermetova was once again out of the blocks well in the second; she went 4-1 up and despite Muguruza claiming some rhythm in the latter half, it went to the former.
Despite that, Muguruza continued to battle and a brilliant rally ended the tie; it saw her move through to a tie with Jennifer Brady in the Quarter-Finals.
Also through to the Quarter-Finals is Martic who ended the run of Barbora Strycova in a similar vein to her first round win over Su-Wei Hsieh. It was a simple 6-3, 6-3 win for the number eight seed as she lived up to her billing to dispel the former finalist who had a good run up to this point but just couldn't produce against the Croatian.
