Garbine Muguruza was the first the step onto a rain-delayed 2nd day of the US Open and a shaky start didn't mess up her plans of reaching the 2nd round.
The 2nd day of the
US Open started with a match between
Muguruza and
Hibino and the Japanese player started the match better. She won her first game and immidietly broke the serve of Muguruza to go up 2-0. She continued to play well until the result was 4-1 in her favor. Then the comeback began with the Spaniard winning the next five games to win the 1st set 6-4.
While it was a sort of collaps from Hibino, it was more of a shifting of a gear for Muguruza. When she finally warmed up it was all her as she continued her good play into the 2nd set. She broke her opponent immidietly in the 1st game jumping out to a 2-0 lead. The players would then trade a few games before we arrived and 4-2 for Muguruza. In this game she had two break points to close out the match but failed to convey either of them. She would however close out the match succesfully winning the 2nd set 6-4.
