Pironkova and Anisimova had solid US Open starts with both players winning in straight sets against tricky opponents.

The second day of the 1st round of the US Open gave us interesting matches which featured prominent players such as Pironkova and Anisimova. Tsvetana Pironkova kicked off her US Open campaign with a match against Samsonova and the Bulgarian had no issues from start till end. She was quite dominant from the early going jumping out to an early lead which she converted into a 6-2 1st set victory.
The 2nd set started off slowly with both players winning their own service games. Midway through the set Pironkova stepped up her game and broke her opponent to make it 4-2. She would lose her serve immidietly after but also break her opponent once more to make it 5-3. She would then close out the match 6-3.
One of the hometown hopefulls Anisimova started her US Open campaign in a good fashion. It wasn't particularly easy nor particulalry pretty but she got the job done against Tomova. A solid 89 minutes were enough for Anisimova to secure a victory in straight sets. The end result was 7-5 7-5 and Anisimova advances to the next round. She served rather well but her winning percentages are not impressive on either of her serves.
An awful one saved break ball out of five she faced doesn't instill much optimism either but it's only the beginning and she will raise her level as the days go by. Another hometown hopefull McHale didn't fare so well. She faced off against Sorana Cirstea and lost her match 4-6 5-7.
