Britain’s tennis star
Andy Murray has picked the world
number one
Iga Swiatek as his preferred mixed doubles partner.
The 36-year-old was one of the participants in a video
released by the
US Open’s official Twitter account who were asked to pick a
partner to play in the mixed doubles event.
While responding to that question, the former world number
one named Swiatek.
Both players are taking part in the ongoing US Open in the
singles category. The mega-event began earlier on Monday where players from all
over the world are participating to showcase their talent.
Swiatek has already won her first-round fixture against
Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-1 on Monday.
The 22-year-old is defending her crown in the mega-event.
She won the competition last year after defeating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur with a score
of 6-2, 7-6.
On the other hand, Murray will face France’s Corentin Moutet
in the tournament opener on Tuesday.
The Glasgow-born has a good record while playing at the
Flashing Medows where he lifted the title back in 2012 after beating the
current world number two Serbia’s legendary tennis player Novak Djokovic in a
five-set thrilling finale with a score of 7–6(12–10), 7–5, 2–6, 3–6, 6–2.
