Elina Svitolina will make a return to the ITF Tour by playing in Chiasso in Switzerland with the decision for her quite natural due to the circumstances.
Svitolina spent some time in the US away from family leaving daughter Skai with her husband Monfils in Switzerland. To make a return in Chiasso which is also in Switzerland was quite natural for her because she can stay close to her family while also playing some tennis to get back into shape.
Playing the biggest events is good but Svitolina needs to play matches and she's not yet at the level needed to play consecutive matches on the WTA Tour. A smaller ITF event will give her that:
"Why Chiasso? I've always been comfortable in Ticino (an Italian-speaking region in Southern Switzerland). My husband lives in Switzerland and I've heard great things about the tournament. I am grateful to the organisation for the wild card.”
On her return in Charleston, Svitolina said:
"The feeling of returning to the court in Charleston was fantastic, I had missed it. Chiasso is a perfect tournament to play good matches and regain continuity, but I will take the tournament one match at a time."
On her prep, Elina said:
“Since January I have been back in training with the goal of returning as soon as possible and I have been working on clay for two months knowing that most likely my first matches would coincide with this time of the season."
