Naomi Osaka advances in Tokyo after Saville retire due to a horrific knee injury in the second game of the match

Naomi Osaka's return to Tokyo was successful but not in the way she had hoped as her opponent had to retire due to an injury.

It was a nice and simple return for Osaka in Japan as she stepped out onto the court followed by loud cheers from her fellow countrymen. She played a really strong opening game losing only one point to take it behind her serve.

The second game started well for Saville as she was up 40-30 but she fell onto the court in that rally screaming in pain and grabbing her knee. The crowd and Osaka were stunned at what was happening with the physio immediately called to the court.

Upon a brief inspection, Saville was advised to retire and she did. Thankfully she was able to walk off the court on her own but it's likely that her season might be done.
