Naomi Osaka cruised past Caroline Garcia in straight sets which gave her particular joy because she wanted to avoid a long match against a tricky opponent.
Some would way it was easier than anybody expected but for Osaka, it was a reason to be happy especially against a player whom she never played before. Speaking at the press conference after the match she said:
"Today was difficult. Happy that I was able to do it in two."
When asked about how she handles Slams differently now than a before she spoke about just sharing with her team more:
"I share with my team that I would not share before because going into this match I was really nervous. I actually had a bad dream about it. I dreamed that I lost the match so I talked to my team and I felt better."
In the next round she will Ons Jabeur, a very tricky player whom she never played before which is something that bothered her before the match with Garcia. She explained why has trouble people she never played before or didn't play in a while:
"I feel like for me it's really hard to play against people who I didn't play before. I just watch a lot of videos and I discuss with my team what to do. I tend to draw back from experiences to know what to do."
