Defending champion
Naomi Osaka has wrapped up her holiday break and is heading over to Melbourne in preparation for the
Australian Open.
Osaka defeated American Jennifer Brady in this year's final, increasing her Grand Slam tally to four trophies. The Japanese superstar has since been embroiled in controversy following her decision to withdraw from Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year, as she dealt with mental health issues.
The former World No.1 took some more time off after the US Open, stating she needed to rediscover her love for tennis. It appears that has been accomplished, as Osaka is scheduled for the Australian Open and took to Twitter to post an image of herself on a flight to Melbourne.
"See you in 16ish hours Australia" wrote Osaka.
The Australian Open begins on January 17, 2022.
