The tragic news has come to light of the passing of Ivana Noskova, mother of Czech tennis prodigy Linda Noskova, a day before the start of main draw matches at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
The 19-year old was seeded 26th at SW19, and kicked off her campaign on Monday, July 1 against Italian veteran Sara Errani. Noskova recorded a straight sets victory, but was unable to defeat Bianca Andreescu in the second round. The 2019 US Open champion advanced following a 6-3 7-6(5) victory, ending Noskova's grass court title hopes.

Ivana Noskova admits to being sick earlier this year

The news of Ivana's passing on June 30 was confirmed by Daniela Hutkova, manager of tennis club TK Precheza, in a statement to Czech media outlet Denik.cz. TK Precheza is a tennis club located in the Czech city of Prerov, where Linda Noskova once trained during the early years of her career.
Ivana had been interviewed by the same outlet earlier this year during Linda's Australian Open campaign. She was full of support for her daughter, but had revealed she would not be able to make it to Melbourne to watch her play, even if Linda reached the final. The Czech youngster made it to the quarterfinals, scoring a stunning upset win over World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the third round.
"Certainly not (about traveling to Melbourne for the Australian Open), even if she played the final," said Ivana. "I am sick, the long journey itself is exhausting. We watch everything at home, keep our fingers crossed and stay connected. Over the years, we have traveled a lot together."
Linda Noskova also took part in ladies doubles at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships, teaming up with Spaniard Rebeka Masarova. However, the duo fell in the opening round to the fourth-seeded duo of Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova on Thursday.
