Emma Navarro is out of the 2025 French Open. The ninth seeded American has won just one game as her Grand Slam run in Paris comes to an end in pretty shocking fashion.
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro was the player to account for Navarro to start the day on Court Suzanne Lenglen. It was a pretty crushing loss claimed in just 55 minutes. Navarro reached the fourth round last year in her best run in Paris but now will have to head onto the grass after a poor loss.
She also becomes the latest player who had played up until the tournament starts to lose albeit she hasn't won as many games as Peyton Stearns and Marta Kostyuk who fell yesterday recently.
She was defeated by a resurgent Beatriz Haddad Maia in Strasbourg in the Quarter-Finals last week, while in Rome and Madrid it was Clara Tauson and Donna Vekic. Albeit in social media videos prior to the tournament, Navarro was all smiles.
But that will soon turn into a frown as she was narrowly not double bagelled by Bouzas Maneiro merely just hitting double faults and letting the occasion get to her in the final game of the set. She handed Navarro a game but it wasn't a lifeline as next game up, she sealed the win.
It also massively opens up the section of the draw as she will now face Diane Parry or Robin Montgomery. Beatriz Haddad Maia is the seed also in that section and likely awaits the winner of that tie if she can get past Hailey Baptiste.
No doubt too it will get Rebecca Sramkova thinking what if when she faces Iga Swiatek shortly. Elsewhere Elena Rybakina has been taken into a third set against Julia Riera after easing through the first 6-1. While Emma Raducanu sits on the verge of a narrow opening set against Xinyu Wang up 6-5 as of time of writing.
