Marta Kostyuk keeps creating PR disasters for the WTA as the Ukranian player revealed that the WTA is ignoring Ukranian requests for a meeting.
Kostyuk has been the most vocal player from Ukraine since the start of the pandemic rarely filtering her thoughts. She's criticized her fellow colleagues from Russia, the WTA and anyone and everyone she thinks isn't doing enough on the situation. Now she's further created more controversy by explaining that the WTA is basically ignoring pleads from the Ukrainian players not even agreeing on a meeting:
"Yes, we wanted to have the meeting with the board and
we didn't get one. No reply, nothing, just silence. I mean, once we're
in the meeting we can talk about it. Before the meeting I don't think
it's a good idea to talk about what we want to talk about there. There are a lot of things that I don't agree with that WTA is doing, this not going to change anything."
This all comes after WTA. No. 1 Iga Swiatek called ono the organisation to do more for players from Ukraine explaining that the focus has been too much on accommodating Russian players. Swiatek has been openly pro-Ukraine since the start of the conflict with the players like Kostyuk very grateful for her support.
She also commented on Potapova being issued a warning for her Moscow jersey controversy:
"I'll just get more hate online. Whatever I say, I will
get a lot of hate. I don't know. Warning, whatever. You give her a
warning.... You can suspend someone, I don't know. I can't comment on
that really, it's just funny."
