Gael Monfils has heaped praise on his
wife
Elina Svitolina for her performance in the recently concluded
ASB Classic.
The Ukrainian tennis star produced an outstanding
performance in the recently concluded competition where she went all the way to
the final but eventually lost to America’s Coco Gauff with a score of 6-7, 6-3,
6-3.
Monfils, in a post on his official account on social media platform
X — previously known as Twitter — where he heaped praise on Svitolina.
"What a fight! Not the result you wanted but I’m so
incredibly proud of you, what an amazing start to the year. Congratulations Coco on a hard-fought victory,” he wrote.
Svitolina will be hoping that her performance in the
recently concluded WTA event and that she will have another impressive year on
the court. Last season, the Odesa-born played in the main round of three Grand
Slams and she managed to play in the quarterfinal or beyond on two occasions.
In the French Open, Svitolina
suffered a defeat in the last eight to the current world number two Belarus’ Aryna
Sabalenka in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. At Wimbledon, the current
world number 25 saw her journey come to an end as she lost in the semifinal to
the Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets with a score of 6-3,
6-3.
