Coco Gauff was playing a very strong match against Ons Jabeur but her inexperience cost her this match at the bett1open Berlin.
Ons Jabeur eased past Coco Gauff into the Berlin final with a 7-6(4) 6-3 win. The young American player opened the match far better but her inexperience cost her the victory. She was up 3-0 early against her opponent as Jaberu struggled to find a good rhythm. Coco was everywhere and she covered the court really well.
Eventually, Jabeur did find a solution because Gauff gave away a few points. Her serve was not on point and it's been her Achilles heel for a very long time. She's allowing herself to get broken multiple times in a match and that's something that is very hard to overcome. After Jabeur pulled back the score to 3-3 the players traded games.
Jabeur was slowly finding her rhythm and her striking was cleaner and more precise. It paid off in the tiebreak when she raced to a 7-4 win over Guaff. The American kind of fell apart after that unable to respond to Jabeur and her crushing style. Unlike Gauff, Jabeur knew how to hold that early 3-0 lead and she even added another break later on.
In the end, a 6-2 2nd set finish for Jabeur who moves to yet another final this year. It will be the 2nd final this year she's played against Belinda Bencic as they played in CHarleston. Bencic won that match.
