Ons Jabeur capped off a superb week in the Spanish capital with a 7-5 0-6 6-2 win over
Jessica Pegula to win the trophy.
This is only Jabeur's 2nd career trophy and what a trophy it is. A WTA 1000 trophy that signals the major breakout of the Tunisian this year. She already played one final in Charleston but lost to Bencic in three sets. This match too went to three sets as well but it was the Tunisian who proved better in the final set with 6-2. The start of the match was better for Pegula who looked quite comfortable on the court despite having to save some break points.
Eventually the American settled in nicely taking a 4-1 lead but Jabeur finally found her rhythm a bit later on and battled back to 4-4. Eventually, the Tunisian went on to win the first set 7-5. The 2nd set opened with Pegula once again having to save break points. After doing so successfully she completely took over smashing Jabeur 6-0.
The Tunisian player could not do anything right and the match looked firmly in control by Pegula. The final set was another good one and it once again featured the Tunisian playing a tiny bit better. Overall she is the better player and she proved it in the final set once she composed herself. She finished it off with 6-2.
