Argentine tennis player
Nadia Podoroska recently became another
player on the list who openly came out and admitted that she was dating another
woman player Guillermina Naya.
In the recent past, most women players in particular came
out and revealed their sexual orientation, something which did not happen frequently
in the past.
Podoroska was quoted in a report recently where she admitted
how it is more difficult for men’s tennis players to reveal their sexual
orientation compared to women’s players in the circuit.
"I see it on a day-to-day basis," Nadia Podoroska
said. "It is much more difficult for men because they are much more
annoyed by other men. The one who doesn’t talk much, the one who is shy, people
immediately say 'he’s gay'.
"That way he will never accept himself," he
continued. "He will never want to get close to someone. It happens at a
time like that, as I saw it, like everywhere. That’s why it’s much more
difficult for them. It’s not the same for women, that’s why it’s “easier” to be
able to share and accept it. In men it is much tougher."
Podoroska is
currently taking part in the WTA Challengers event in Chile where she has
already booked her place in the round of 16 after beating Switzerland’s Conny Perrin
in the first round with a score of 7-6, 1-6, 7-5.
