Naomi Osaka plays a flawless match to beat Maryna Zanevska 6-1, 6-1 in 58 minutes. Into the QFs in Melbourne 1 WTA 250 to play Andrea Petkovic.
The first match Osaka played in 2022 was a bit of a wanky affair against Cornet but in all fairness to Osaka, Cornet can be a tricky opponent to beat. In the 2nd round, Osaka faced a player that is on a lower level than Cornet in Zanevska and the Japanese player looked much better. Employing a very straightforward and aggressive playstyle Osaka was able to dominate rallies with ease.
From the start of the match, it was clear that Osaka had her laser goggles on and she was clearing lines from both sides. Zanevska could not withstand the sheer power and precision of Osaka and quickly found herself in a deficit. The first set took only 26 minutes and the result was 6-1.
The 2nd set featured a bit more fight from Zanevska as it took longer but the score was still the same as Osaka once again dominated and won with 6-1. It was a superb performance from start to finish and certainly one of the best matches she played since her Australian Open run last year. She's showing a lot of confidence in her game and the court in Melbourne works well for her.
