Emma Raducanu is making history at the US Open with the British player comfortably sailing to what easily might be her maiden grand slam final.
She breezed past all of her opponents never dropping a set en route to the US Open semi-final. As brilliant as that run is, it's bittersweet for Raducanu who is not doing this with her parents in attendance. Parents Ian and Renee are back in the UK watching and following every second of their daughter's journey and it will remain so.
After her win over Belinda Bencic, Raducanu was asked about her parents and whether they would be in attendance but the British player explained they won't be saying:
"It's not possible, because you need a waiver and it takes a couple of weeks for approval. It's too late, and they won't be able to get one.”
It's a heartbreaking development as nobody including the inner circle or Raducanu herself expected this run at the US Open to happen. Had anyone believed it possible, the parents would be in the stance from match number one. Raducanu also praised her parents saying:
"I think my parents have both instilled in me from a very young age to definitely have a positive attitude on the court. Because when I was younger, it was definitely an absolute no-go if I had any sort of bad attitude. So from a young age, I definitely learnt that, and it's followed me until now."
