Former Australian tennis player Paul McNamee has snubbed the
world number one
Iga Swiatek from the potential finalist list of the upcoming French
Open. The second Grand Slam of the year will begin on Sunday where players from
all over the world will participate to battle for the ultimate prize.
McNamee, who won four Grand Slams in his career in the
doubles category, in a post on his official account on the social media platform
X—previously known as Twitter—shared an interesting lineup of finalists for the
Roland Garros where he snubbed the reigning world number one Swiatek in favour
of world number two Belarus’
Aryna Sabalenka and Latvia’s
Jelena Ostapenko. “With
Roland Garros about to start, on the beautiful terre battu in the heart of
Springtime in Paris, here are my finals matchups : Men’s: Djokovic v Alcaraz
Women’s: Ostapenko v Sabalenka. To all
players, play well, and may the best man/woman win. See you in Paris,” he wrote.
Swiatek is coming into the event as a strong favourite. She has been crowned champion thrice at Roland Garros and will defend her back-to-back titles this year. Swiatek has been in fabulous form in the 2024 season, having already lifted the Qatar Open, Indian Wells, Madrid Open, and Rome Open.
