Paula Badosa has started her campaign at the Thailand Open 2024 with a victory against Lanlana Tararudee in her debut at the tournament. The Spaniard, who was playing her first match after the Australian Open, defeated the local player after starting a set down: 6-3, 4-6, 1-6.
The first set Badosa did not play well at all. Tararudee was 3-0 up after the Spaniard gave up a 0-40 on her first serve. Although she managed to cut it to 3-2 with a break, immediately after she gave up her serve again for the Thai to take a 4-2 lead and maintain the advantage until the final 6-3 of the first set.
In the second set, forced to give a better image being one of the top seeds of the tournament, Paula Badosa accumulated two games in a row to go ahead 0-2. Although the joy would be short-lived, as Lanlana Tararudee managed to tie then with another break. The equality in the second set would last until 4-5 in favor of Badosa, who like Jannik Sinner did to Daniil Medvedev in the third and fourth set of the final of the Australian Open, the Spaniard broke her opponent's serve to win the set 4-6 and start serving in the deciding set.
This is where Badosa pressed the accelerator and did not allow Tararudee a single option of victory. The Spaniard, chaining three games in a row to get 0-3, got a second break in the set with 1-4 to serve to win with 1-5. Although the Thai tried the miracle and had three break balls, Badosa saved them all and in her first match ball closed the victory.
